Academic — government college
The pathSkills
This is the permanent, pensionable side of pharmacy teaching. You teach at a government college, with pay set by UGC/AICTE scales and promotions that come at fixed times. The work is secure and respected. But posts are few, getting in is competitive, and you need a PhD to move past the middle of your career.
The steps in this path
Common questions
It gets you in, but not far. A First Class M.Pharm lets you start as a Lecturer. To rise past Assistant Professor, you need a PhD. Since 1 July 2021, a PhD is required for fresh recruitment as Associate Professor. So an M.Pharm starts the career, but a PhD is needed to grow it.
