Formulation & development

The pathSkills

This work turns a drug ingredient into a finished form people can take — a stable tablet, capsule, or injectable. F&D scientists run formulation trials, fine-tune excipients, and prove the product is stable before handing it to manufacturing. It is the most pharmacy-focused of the development jobs — an M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics fits it directly — and it sits between R&D and commercial production.

The steps in this path

Common questions

Most formulation and development jobs ask for an M.Pharm, usually in Pharmaceutics or Industrial Pharmacy. With only a B.Pharm, it is hard to get into this work directly. The normal route is B.Pharm, then M.Pharm, then an entry-level formulation job.
